Of particular interest among the fauna is the presence of some species of african origin (especially a big ape called Theropithecus cf. oswaldi) which could indicate a migration from Africa to Europe in the early Quaternary and probably across the straits of Gibraltar.
The human remains recovered are just a few but very important and represent together with the fossils from Orce the oldest in Western Europe.
Cueva Victoria has also a long mining history, it was used as manganese mine in the late 19th century , the miners altered the original shape of the cave, e. g. made tunnels, ventilation holes and other things.
